In 2012, the Li Mei-shu Memorial Galley began holding the annual Month of Li Mei-Shu Art event from March to April to promote the legacy of painter Li Mei-Shu and share his love for the local community. The event presents Li Mei-shu’s best works with works by contemporary artists from other disciplines, bringing art and culture to more people rather than confining it to the inside of a museum. In recent years, the Month of Li Mei-shu event has also featured works by Taiwanese and Japanese artists from the Japanese colonial era in Taiwan, which are on display in various spaces in Sanxia, New Taipei City, turning the town into an open artistic venue. Art is used as a medium to re-interpret the stories of this land. When visitors appreciate the art works, they are also reminded of their connections with the land, its culture, its history, and the environment.
