User-centered Technological Design

In an effort to promote “Tinkering” and “Maker” education, in 2015 the National Taiwan Science Education Center started working with the Exploratorium in San Francisco to develop a learning app called Tinkering Journey Sketchbook. The app puts users center stage and encourages them to find solutions rather than giving them set answers. After extensive trials and revision, the app is now an effective companion tool to an onsite Tinkering Workshop. The app’s main features include: virtual facilitator, recorder, design, sharing, and feedback. When users take part in the workshop, they can use the app to record their tinkering progress in pictures and text. The app has been recognized with an American Alliance of Museums (AAM) MUSE Award in the Education & Outreach category.
