Public awareness of human rights has been gaining ground in Taiwan over the last decade, with the preservation of more sites bearing witness to human rights abuses and international human rights covenants being signed into domestic law. In recent years, public education on human rights has been expanded to various fields and different age groups, and many picture books aimed at children have also appeared.
Picture books are an important medium for the National Human Rights Museum. Their simple storylines and vivid images help guide readers and pique their interest. The Museum has continued to create picture books in various styles to tell the stories of victims of political persecution. It has also held picture book workshops to mobilize more illustrators, writers, and volunteer storytellers to participate in the creation and dissemination of picture books, using vivid pictorial storytelling to help children to learn about the importance of human rights.
