The Ama Museum is the first social education hub advocating peace and women’s human rights in Taiwan. The Museum builds upon the historical records of the movements by former “comfort women” to seek justice, and also holds exhibitions on contemporary gender issues. The human rights education provided by the Museum focuses on local issues but at the same time incorporates an international perspective.
In 2018, the Museum teamed up with the Anne Frank House in the Netherlands for a special exhibition entitled Anne X Ama: Girls under Fire in WWII, which describes the human rights abuses and social discrimination during the Second World War, and guides visitors to think about how to prevent such atrocities from happening again. The exhibition also featured a series of courses and workshops to discuss contemporary gender and human rights issues. It also promoted a cross-disciplinary art collaboration project bringing together dance, theater, film, and music revisiting traumatic memory for dialogue and reflection on a peaceful future.
